1. Information we collect
We collect information you provide, information created when you use Wavik, and technical information needed to operate the service.
- Account and authentication information: email address, login provider, provider account identifiers, session records, account status, profile preferences, avatar settings, and language or region preferences.
- Location and map information: approximate or precise location when you grant permission, searched places, selected waters, map regions, saved private spots, favorite waters, and coordinates needed to show maps, nearby waters, weather, tides, and trip context.
- Fishing activity information: catch logs, blank-session logs, trip plans, target species, methods, bait, gear, water type, time, weather context, notes, ratings, review summaries, and related analytics generated from your private fishing history.
- Media and sensor content: photos, images, audio, or other media you choose to attach to catch logs or AI identification workflows, plus related metadata such as upload time and file type.
- AI inputs and outputs: prompts, selected species, method, trip window, water context, weather context, risk signals, private review summaries, AI recommendations, and AI usage metadata such as latency and token counts. We do not use AI guidance as a guarantee of a catch or as a substitute for official safety or regulation checks.
- Subscription information: product identifiers, transaction identifiers, entitlement status, renewal status, platform, and verification results for in-app purchases. Apple handles payment card details directly.
- Technical and usage information: IP address, device type, operating system, app version, request logs, crash or diagnostic information, feature usage, security events, and approximate region derived from requests.
- Support communications: messages, email address, attachments, and other information you send when contacting us.
2. How we use information
- Provide core features such as weather, map data, nearby waters, private spots, catch logs, fish species references, AI fishing plans, and personal trip review.
- Authenticate users, maintain sessions, process email verification codes, manage subscriptions, and prevent unauthorized access.
- Generate fishing index signals, trip recommendations, water candidates, alerts, and review summaries using weather, water, tide, species, spot, and private history context.
- Store owner-only private spots, exact coordinates, private catch logs, media, and review summaries so they are available only to the account owner unless you choose to share them.
- Improve product reliability, debug issues, measure feature performance, prevent abuse, and protect the security of Wavik.
- Send service messages such as login codes, account notices, security alerts, subscription updates, and support replies.
- Comply with law, enforce our terms, respond to lawful requests, and protect the rights, safety, and property of users and Wavik.
3. Location, private spots, and public display
Wavik is built around fishing locations, so location information is important. You can deny location permission and still use parts of the service by searching or selecting locations manually. If you grant location permission, we use it to show nearby waters, forecasts, map context, and trip planning signals.
Private spots and exact private coordinates are treated as sensitive by default. Public or shared surfaces should use blurred, region-level, or water-level location unless you deliberately choose otherwise. Do not save or share a spot if doing so would violate local law, property rights, safety rules, or conservation restrictions.
4. AI features
Wavik may send selected trip-planning inputs, weather and water context, catch-log summaries, media metadata, or user-provided media to AI service providers to generate fishing plans, catch media assistance, training suggestions, and private review insights. We try to minimize what is sent and avoid exposing raw private coordinates when blurred or summarized context is enough.
AI output can be incomplete or wrong. You are responsible for checking official regulations, safety conditions, access rules, and local requirements before fishing.
5. Third-party services
We may use service providers to operate Wavik. These providers may process information only as needed to provide services to us, subject to their own terms and privacy commitments.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, App Store subscriptions, transaction verification, and App Store distribution.
- Map and place providers: map rendering, place search, geocoding, water discovery, and map SDK services, including Mapbox or regional alternatives where configured.
- Weather, marine, tide, hydrology, and alert providers: forecast, marine, tide, official alert, and water condition data.
- AI providers: AI plan generation, media assistance, and private review workflows, including OpenAI-compatible API providers where configured.
- Email providers: login codes and service emails, including Resend or other providers where configured.
- Hosting, database, and storage providers: API hosting, PostgreSQL/PostGIS databases, object storage for media, backups, logging, and infrastructure security.
- Subscription infrastructure: subscription validation and entitlement management, including Apple and RevenueCat where configured.
6. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We also do not use your private exact fishing locations for third-party advertising.
We may share information with service providers, with your direction or consent, as part of a business transfer, to comply with law, to protect rights and safety, or to investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents.
7. Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide Wavik, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, maintain security, and enforce agreements. Account data, private spots, catch logs, media, trip plans, and preferences are generally kept while your account is active. Deleted account data is removed or de-identified within a reasonable period unless retention is required for security, legal, backup, fraud prevention, subscription, or accounting reasons.
Login codes and temporary verification data are retained for short periods. Server logs and diagnostic records are kept for limited operational periods. Backups may retain deleted information for a limited time before they are overwritten.
8. Your choices and rights
- You can manage location permission in your device settings.
- You can edit or delete many private spots, logs, media, preferences, and account details inside the app where available.
- You can request access, correction, deletion, export, restriction, or objection by contacting privacy@wavik.app.
- You can opt out of non-essential emails by using unsubscribe instructions where provided. We may still send transactional and security messages.
- You can request account deletion in the app if available, or by contacting us.
9. GDPR and international users
If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, our legal bases may include performance of a contract, consent, legitimate interests, legal obligations, and protection of vital interests where safety is involved. You may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object, and receive a portable copy of your personal data. You may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Wavik may process and store information in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as contractual protections with service providers.
10. California privacy notice
If you are a California resident, you may have rights to know, access, delete, correct, and limit certain uses of personal information, and to opt out of sale or sharing as defined by California law. Wavik does not sell personal information. We do not knowingly share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
The categories of personal information we may collect include identifiers, account information, internet or electronic network activity, geolocation data, user-generated content, commercial information related to subscriptions, and inferences from your fishing activity. We use these categories for the purposes described in this policy.
11. Children
Wavik is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it. If a higher age threshold applies in your region, you must meet that threshold or have appropriate parental consent.
12. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including access controls, authenticated APIs, encrypted transport, private media access paths, and separation between public water/species data and user-scoped private data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will provide notice through the app, website, email, or another appropriate method. The effective date at the top shows when this policy was last updated.
